Selon L’INSEE, Sarah est une famille monoparentale. Elle élève seule sa fille. Comme près de 2 millions de femmes en France. Et Sarah galère.. Car aujourd’hui, élever seul(e) son enfant relève du défi. Sarah est tombée enceinte à 18 ans. « C’est mon copain qui m’a dit que j’étais enceinte. Le médecin m’a dit que ça faisait 5 mois, que je faisais un déni de grossesse. Quelques jours après mon ventre a grossit d’un coup, et mon copain m’a quitté. » Sans structure familiale solide, Sarah s’est retrouvée dans un foyer pour mères isolées, qui l’a accepté dès les derniers mois de sa grossesse et pour les 3 années à venir. According to INSEE, Sarah constitutes a single-parent family. Like nearly 2 million other women in France, she’s bringing up her daughter on her own. And Sarah’s struggling. Because today, raising a child alone is a real challenge. Sarah became pregnant at 18. “My boyfriend told me I was pregnant. The doctor said that I’d been pregnant for 5 months, but I was in denial. A few days later my belly swelled up just like that and my boyfriend left me.” Without a solid family unit, Sarah moved into a home for isolated single mothers, which accepted her in the final months of her pregnancy and the 3 years that followed.
