According to INSEE, Sarah constitutes a single-parent family. Like nearly 2 million other women in France, she’s bringing up her daughter on her own. And Sarah’s struggling. Because today, raising a child alone is a real challenge. Sarah became pregnant at 18. “My boyfriend told me I was pregnant. The doctor said that I’d been pregnant for 5 months, but I was in denial. A few days later my belly swelled up just like that and my boyfriend left me.” Without a solid family unit, Sarah moved into a home for isolated single mothers, which accepted her in the final months of her pregnancy and the 3 years that followed.
