NI UNA MENOS

In Argentina, feminicide has been punished since 2012 by life imprisonment. Despite the legislation, the number of murders of women is increasing. A woman dies every 28 hours. Following a series of particularly atrocious murders, in 2015, a group of journalists and feminists created a collective called: “Ni Una menos” “No one less”, against violence against women. A huge demonstration in eighty cities across the country took place simultaneously on June 3, 2015.

This movement was extremely successful and half a million women marched through Buenos Aires and fifty countries around the world. From childhood to adulthood, all social classes combined, women suffer violence. But violence is stronger in poor, traditional and patriarchal societies. Young girls leave their families where they are subjected to violence and fall in love with gang members who lead them to drugs and prostitution. In Buenos Aires, there are 15,000 brothels and there are 40,000 all over the country. Often, young girls get pregnant between the ages of 13 and 16. Abortion was only legalised in June 2018. Police do not take any complaint, corruption is widespread, women grow up suffering from domestic and psychological violence throughout their lives.

This project bears witness both to families who have lost a loved one, and to physical and psychological victims of violence.
