ON THE MOVE
More than 200 000 Gypsies and Travellers live in the UK. They are continually on the move, trying to find a place in a society which strongly discriminates against them. There are different communities: Romas, Irish, English and Scottish Travellers. Some of them have been living in the UK since the 16th Century. They make up the UK’s highest child mortality and illiteracy rate and have the shortest life expectancy. Like everywhere else in Europe, they can’t find their place in England. Leading a nomadic life just doesn’t fit.
