Le Royaume du Bhoutan s’est fait remarquer pour avoir été en 1972 à l’origine du concept de Bonheur National Brut, en opposition à l’indice international du Produit Intérieur Brut. Paradoxalement, vers la fin des années 80 et le début des années 90, le gouvernement bhoutanais mena une politique ségrégationniste afin d’étouffer l’essor démographique des groupes minoritaires. Cette politique aboutit à l’expulsion de près d’1/6ème de sa population ; soit plus de 100 000 personnes qui furent destituées de leurs nationalités, dépossédées de leurs terres et contraint de quitter le pays.
The Kingdom of Bhutan got noticed to have been in 1972 at the origin of the concept of Gross National Happiness in opposition to the international indication of the Gross Domestic Product. Paradoxically, in the late 80’s and the beginning of the 90’s, the Bhutanese government led a segregationist policy to suffocate the demographic development of the minority groups. This policy ends in the eviction of about 1/6th of its population ; or more than 100 000 persons who were discharged of their nationalities, dispossessed of their lands and forces to leave the country.
