This post is also available in: French

Six months after Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister in 1979, photographer Yan Morvan arrives in London. From riots of Brixton to the rise of mods and skinheads, during a period that spans from 1979 to 1981, he will bring back fascinating images that reveal the history of a popular London, between tradition and upheaval.

Yan Morvan is a French photographer. He worked for a long time as a war photographer, traveling the world covering many conflicts of the second half of the 20th century, an area in which he is recognized as one of the greatest specialists of his generation. However, it is through his Gang series, devoted to the underworld and the Parisian bas fonds of the 1970s and 1980s, that Morvan became known to the general public. His work on this series lasted nearly twenty years and made him one of the masters of social photography. The book ”Years of iron” is the result of an accomplice work with Loïc Vincent, artistic director, started earlier on the books Bobby Sands, Blousons Noirs and Gangs Story. They are currently preparing many other book projects.
