FERHAT BOUDA

FERHAT BOUDA

This post is also available in: French

Ferhat Bouda subscribes to a tradition of documentary photography, as well as narration, essay, and commitment.  To attest, to expose – preferably in black and white –, to use time to go beyond appearances, to get accepted in order to respect those whom he represents and deliver visual cues surpassing the status of the anecdote, those are the basis of his inquiries. Whether in his home country of Kabylie, or with Azawad activists — with whom he entertains a cultural kinship –, or in Germany, where he lives, he focuses on the people, their gaze, and their behavior. He attempts at decoding situations and sharing these complex universes, often too complex to approach, or too often concealed by stereotypes. Ferhat Bouda is mainly interested in minorities: from Berbers to nomadic peoples such as the Tuareg people and the Mongols.
