Their names are Tamar, Yaron or Gal. They are students, farmers, postal workers or former officers. They live in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem and are 20, 40 or 60 years old. Between 2007 and 2017, Martin Barzilai, through his numerous trips, has met about 50 Israelis called “refuzniks” who refuse, for political or moral reasons, to serve a society militarised by the far right where the military service is a constituent of the Israeli citizenship.
This exhibition is extracted from the book “Refuzniks, say no to the army in Israel”, co-edited by Libertalia editions and Amensty International, will be available in November 2017.
