Gone with empty hands
This display focuses on the people displaced after the fights in the region of Kivu (east of Congo). Philip Poupin took those pictures during the autumn of 2008. Violence was at its peak. The east of Congo is the theatre of such fights since the 90’s. They take root in their Rwandan neighbours. Rwanda was the theater of a genocide in 1994. The area is rich with mines. This explains why it has become the main issue in the Kivu war.

Philip Poupin is a 26-year-old photo story reporter. His work focuses on conflicts and environmental themes. He travelled to Afghanistan, Amazonia, Darfur, Kenya, Somalia…

Muestra del fotógrafo Philip Poupin sobre las personas desplazadas a causa de los combates en Kivu, Congo oriental. El reportaje tuvo lugar en la segunda mitad de 2008, cuando la violencia se hallaba en su apogeo. Desde la década del 90, la región oriental del Congo hace frente a graves combates radicados en la vecina Rwanda, escenario de un genocidio en 1994. El control de los recursos de su subsuelo es el principal problema de la guerra en Kivu, rica región minera.

Philip Poupin es un joven foto-reportero de 26 años que recorre el mundo para fotografiar los conflictos y los problemas ambientales. Entre otros, trabajos sobre el Afganistán, el Amazonas, la región de Darfur, Kenya, Somalia …etc.
