Denis Dailleux, who lived in Cairo, continues to show people of Egypt he had fallen in love with fifteen years ago. Mother and Son is certainly his most personal and most disturbing series.

With decency and delicacy, he takes us into the intimacy of families where the absolute love of the son for his mother is echoing like an ode which touches everyone. His tender and straight gaze gives us a glimpse of the boundaries between protection and domination, tenderness and submission, that govern the mother / son relationships and, perhaps more broadly, the relationships between women and men in the Mediterranean world.

These twenty-four photographic portraits of a rare subtlety are here accompanied by a literary text by Philippe Mezescaze who knows well the work of the photographer.

In 2014, the Mother and Son series was awarded at the prestigious World Press Photo in the ”Staged Portrait” category.
