ELSWICK'S CHILDREN

This post is also available in: French

Too early disappeared at the age of 56 in 2013, Tish Murtha left a heritage of a rare rawness in black and white on the ravages of the Thatcher era in northern Britain. Third in a lineage of ten children raised in a poor neighborhood of Newcastle, the photographer, who was trained at the documentary photography school of the Newport College of Art, didn’t just document social poverty, she lived it. Following the adventures of an idle and rebellious youth, she captures the lives of her friends, her family and the community around her.
