In the late 70s, an evening school was established in Tihri, by an Indian association, “The Barefoot College”, where children who spend their day at work are welcomed. Mainly for boys, classes are held from 7 pm to 10 pm.
All her life, Kamla would have remained illiterate. Like most girls her age in Rajasthan. But at nine years old, defying the familial ban, she took evening classes. Today, Kamla is a solar energy engineer.

Biography
In the great tradition of reportage, member of the Leica Foundation, Marie-Paule Nègre is along the same lines as the photographers of the moment.
Cofounder of the Métis Agency in 1989, she received the Prix Nièpce in 1995 to reward which recognizes a career which has a lot to do with social testimonial.
She is currently working on portraits of contemporary artists from around the world living in Paris.
Marie-Paule Nègre’s photographs can be found in many collective books and in public and private collections worldwide.
