THE YANOMAMI FIGHT

A LUTA YANOMAMI

This post is also available in: French

The retrospective of Claudia Andujar’s work on the Yanomami, an endangered indigenous people in Brasil, occupies two floors of the Instituto Moreira Salles in São Paulo, with about 300 images and an installation of the photographer and activist, in addition to books. and documents on the trajectory of a people struggling for survival. The ensemble retraces a broad overview of Andujar’s work throughout her career with the Yanomami, and touches on little-known aspects of the photographer’s struggle for the tracing of indigenous lands – a militant action that led her to mix politics to her artistic work. The selection of the exhibited works is the result of a work carried out over several years by the curator Thyago Nogueira, coordinator of the section of contemporary photography at the IMS, from a collection of more than 40 thousand images of the artist.
