1984 - VENEZUELA

1984 – Venezuela is a document about the legacy of President Hugo Chávez and his Bolivarian revolution, a source of inspiration for the most disadvantaged citizens of Latin America at the beginning, but now one of the most oppressive regimes of history of the region.

When Hugo Chávez launched his revolution, his followers dreamed of a more fair and more free Latin America which would offer more opportunities to everyone. This revolution was addressed to societies where radical changes had never been achieved otherwise than through armed struggle.

But over time, the dream got broken. The revolution became its own sworn enemy, turning into what it used to criticize: a dictatorship. This photographic story witnesses about the defeat of this revolution and shows, at the same time, hope for reconciliation emerging in Venezuelan society.
