WOMEN FOR A WATERLESS COUNTRY

This post is also available in: French

Jordan is currently experiencing one of its worst environmental crises: its water sources are not sufficient to supply its inhabitants. Old and obsolete infrastructures cause a water loss of 40%. Plumbers, mostly men, are not sufficient to face this crisis. Often, they are not allowed to enter homes where women are alone, without the presence of another male family member, delaying repair time. Thanks to plumbing courses, Jordanian and Syrian women contribute to a resolution of this problem. These courses have a very positive impact: they mean a source of courage and emancipation in a strongly traditional society where only 20% of women are part of the labor market.
