The Forgotten

In 2007 I met Nyi Nyi on a boat going from Myitkyina to Bhamo. He spoke English and he invited me to a family marriage, I stayed for 3 days. He had to flee the Burmese army, and he fled to the refugee camp in northwest Thailand. It was great to see him and his family again, but the conditions they live in are shocking. The stories of rape, crime and corruption provoked me into doing this essay. I’ve been told too many stories to start here, but hope my photos help show some of the misery. Slavery is alive and well in Thailand.
