Gilles CRAMPES
This post is also available in: Anglais
Photographer Gilles Crampes has immersed himself in the very numerous communities in Paris that are coming from countries and cultures all around the world for more than three years. The photojournalistic angle he has chosen illustrates how these cultures have been preserved and perpetuated with their customs, their traditional, religious or non-religious festivities, their arts, their ways of life, etc. This work raises the issue of the preservation of a cultural identity facing the globalization and westernization of societal patterns. Furthermore, considering the rise of nationalist parties everywhere in Europe and the withdrawal from a part of the population into themselves, the images presented here have a definite didactic value, aiming at educating about who different, strange is and therefore feared because unknown.
