Twelve years ago, Maoist rebels began what was to be a long guerilla war calling for ethnic, rural, and women’s rights in Nepal. Along with modernization, it has changed Nepal drastically. This transition is not unique. Like many developing countries, Nepal is changing from a county that lived in respect, tradition, culture, community, family to one of political problems, crowed cities, poverty, pollution, loss of family and community ties. What is unique, however, is how recently it began and how rapidly it is progressing.
