Most accounts of Nepal will mention that it is among the poorest countries in the world, that it is extremely isolated by the gargantuan Himalaya, that it is a politically tumultuous state wedged between two rising giants, like a yam between two boulders. During my trips there to document social stigma and the state of the disabled, I developed a rather different way to look at the tiny, romanticized nation.
