Dogon Country is a region of south Mali which is less developed in comparison to the rest of the country. Without electricity or running water, sanitary conditions and health are in a precarious state. Even so, Muslims, Christians and animists live peacefully next to one another. The children play an important role in the community life. From their birth until they are able to walk, their mothers never let go of them. But from the moment they can walk, they are left to take care of themselves. From the age of seven onwards, they are considered to be adults and sent to work. Often they suffer from nutritional diseases which are left untreated.
