Au cours des dix dernières années, la Youth Photo League du Bronx Documentary Center a offert à plus de 400 élèves des collèges et lycées étudiants du sud du Bronx avec des cours gratuits de photographie documentaire et de multimédia ainsi qu’un collège ouvert toute l’année programme de réussite. Forts d’un talent considérable et de compétences en développement, les étudiants de BDC racontent les histoires de la communauté avec précision et de manière créative, construisant des portraits intimes de l’arrondissement que beaucoup appellent chez eux. L’exposition célèbre leur travail primé et le 10e anniversaire du programme. Les étudiants de BDC ont toujours gagné honneurs pour leur travail, ils ont participé à des expositions au festival Photoville, aux jardins botaniques du Bronx, au Metropolitan Museum of Art, Newark Museum, Polka Gallery à Paris et d’autres lieux. Les étudiants ont représenté les États-Unis à l’international festivals de photo et leurs travaux ont été publiés dans un large éventail de médias, notamment le New York Times, le Washington Post, Polka magazine (France), ABC News, BBC, Univision, Pix11 et autres. Les lycéens, dont la grande majorité sont premiers famille à fréquenter l’université, ont toujours été admis dans des écoles prestigieuses de quatre ans, presque toutes avec des bourses complètes. L’exposition sera accompagnée d’un livre du même nom, une collection impressionnante de photos du passé d’étudiants de BDC.

Over the last ten years, the Bronx Documentary Center’s Youth Photo League has provided more than 400 middle school and high school students from the South Bronx with free documentary photography and multimedia classes as well as a year-round college success program. Armed with considerable talent and developing skills, BDC students are telling community stories accurately and creatively, building intimate portraits of the borough that many call home. The exhibition celebrates their award-winning work and the 10th anniversary of the program. BDC students have consistently won honors for their work, they have participated in exhibitions at Photoville festival, the Bronx Botanical Gardens, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Newark Museum, Polka gallery in Paris, and other venues. The students have represented the US at international photo festivals and their work has been published in a wide range of media including The New York Times, Washington Post, Polka magazine (France), ABC News, BBC, Univision, Pix11 and others. The high school seniors, the vast majority of whom are first in family to attend college, have consistently won acceptance to prestigious four-year schools, nearly all with full scholarships. The exhibition will be accompanied by a book of the same name, an impressive collection of BDC students’ photos from the past.
