À TRAVERS L’OBJECTIF DE MILOMIR KOVAČEVIĆ STRAŠNI

Il y a des moments où l’art jaillit d’une incroyable connexion entre l’artiste et ses sujets, d’un quotidien qui se transforme en puit d’inspiration, et d’un récit qui transcende les frontières. L’exposition « SEE – THE FRAME IS NOT A LIMIT » (Regardez – Le cadre n’est pas une limite), en est un exemple. Elle est le fruit d’une collaboration de longue date entre l’artiste Milomir Kovačević Strašni et les résidents de l’Institution Drin, un des rare hôpitaux de Bosnie Herzégovine a prendre en charge les patients souffrant de troubles psychiatriques lourds. Cette exposition marque un nouveau chapitre puisqu’elle se déroule au cœur de l’art et de la culture de la Bosnie-Herzégovine. Ici, au cœur de la galerie d’art, le récit de notre institution reçoit la place qui lui revient sur la toile artistique plus large, et nos résidents, des personnes atteintes de déficiences intellectuelles et de troubles de la santé mentale, participent activement à la création artistique, leurs contributions servant d’inspiration à l’ensemble de la communauté artistique.
Bien qu’intitulée « SEE – THE FRAME IS NOT A LIMIT » cette exposition signifie également la poursuite d’une histoire qui a commencé en 2011 à Saint-Tropez, lors de la 2e Biennale Art & Handicap Mental à Saint-Tropez, à laquelle trois résidents de l’Institution Drin, dont Goran, ont participé. Milomir Kovačević Strašni était le photographe officiel de cet événement, et cette collaboration s’est rapidement transformée en une profonde amitié et en voyage artistique partagé. L’année suivante, nous avons accueilli notre première exposition de photos intitulée « Mes amis de Saint-Tropez » dans les locaux de l’institution.
Au fil des ans, chaque visite de Milomir Kovačević Strašni à Sarajevo, sa ville natale, s’accompagnait inévitablement d’une visite à notre institution. Il a interagi avec nos résidents et a documenté des moments cruciaux de leur vie. Les photographies prises lors de la participation de nos quatre résidents à la 3e Biennale Art & Handicap Mental à Saint-Tropez en 2016, ainsi que d’autres photographies créées avant et après, ont servi d’impulsion à l’organisation d’une exposition à la galerie d’art de Sarajevo. Alors que tout était prêt pour l’exposition « More About Us, With Us » en mars 2020, la pandémie de Covid-19 nous a malheureusement contraints à l’annuler. Les photographies destinées à cette exposition ont trouvé leur place dans l’espace d’exposition de Drin, où elles peuvent encore atteindre le public et transmettre leur récit.

Vous pouvez désormais voir les résultats de cette amitié de longue date et de cette collaboration artistique dans la nouvelle exposition « See – The frame is not a limit ». Un grand nombre de nos résidents sont devenus partie intégrante de ce récit inspirant.

Une petite anecdote sur Goran 

Goran était l’un des trois résidents de l’Institution Drin sélectionnés pour se rendre à Saint-Tropez, en France à l’occasion du Biennale de l’art et du handicap mental. Il possédait un talent extraordinaire pour le dessin et la peinture, et s’intéressait également à la photographie. Dès qu’il a appris qu’il s’envolerait pour Saint-Tropez, sa joie a été sans limite. Il parle de son ami en France et de la possibilité de le rencontrer. Il a gardé le nom de son ami secret, mentionnant seulement qu’il vivait à Paris et qu’il n’avait pas ses coordonnées. Nous avons essayé de lui expliquer que la France était un pays immense et que les chances de retrouver son ami étaient plutôt minces.
Il a posé de nombreuses questions sur Saint-Tropez, telles que les coordonnées géographiques, le climat et d’autres détails similaires. Il a également demandé un siège côté hublot, car il s’agissait de son tout premier vol. Bien entendu, nous avons accédé à son souhait et lui avons réservé un siège côté hublot. Il était curieux des aspects techniques du vol, tels que l’altitude de vol et les caractéristiques de l’avion. De temps en temps, il mentionnait son ami en France. Lorsque nous sommes arrivés à Saint-Tropez et que nous avons rencontré les hôtes de l’événement et les participants de différents pays et quelque chose d’incroyable s’est produit « Voilà mon ami ! » s’exclame Goran. Nous ne l’avons premièrement pas cru. Mais cet homme s’est approché de lui, visiblement surpris, et lui a dit : « Goran ! « Goran ! Une énorme accolade s’en est suivie, et le bonheur rayonnait sur leurs visages. Nous étions sous le choc. Incrédules, nous assistions aux retrouvailles de deux amis au sujet desquels nous n’avions cessé de répéter à Goran qu’une telle chose était impossible. Aujourd’hui, nous restons sans voix. L’ami dont Goran parlait depuis le début était Milomir Kovačević Strašni.
La vie raconte parfois les histoires les plus incroyables. Les liens que nous tissons avec les autres nous surprennent lorsque nous nous y attendons le moins. Nous avons découvert plus tard leur connexion spéciale et incroyable qui remonte à l’époque du club universitaire de photographie (CEDUS). Voici l’incroyable histoire de Goran et Milomir, qui nous rappelle que nos destins sont liés d’une manière qui échappe à notre imagination.

A TESTIMONY TO TIME
THROUGH THE LENS OF MILOMIR KOVAČEVIĆ STRAŠNI

There are moments when art springs from an incredible connection between the artist and his subjects, from everyday life that turns into a well of inspiration, and from a narrative that transcends borders. The exhibition «SEE – THE FRAME IS NOT A LIMIT » is a case in point. It is the result of a long-standing collaboration between artist Milomir Kovačević Strašni and the residents of the Drin Institution, one of the few hospitals in Bosnia-Herzegovina to care for patients suffering from serious psychiatric disorders. This exhibition marks a new chapter, as it takes place at the heart of art and culture in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Here, at the heart of the art gallery, the story of our institution is given its rightful place on the wider artistic canvas, and our residents, people with intellectual disabilities and mental health disorders, are actively involved in creating art, their contributions serving as inspiration to the wider artistic community.
Although entitled «SEE – THE FRAME IS NOT A LIMIT » this exhibition also signifies the continuation of a story that began in 2011 in Saint-Tropez, during the 2nd Biennale Art & Mental Disability in Saint-Tropez, in which three residents of the Drin Institution, including Goran, participated. Milomir Kovačević Strašni was the official photographer for this event, and this collaboration quickly turned into a deep friendship and a shared artistic journey. The following year, we hosted our first photo exhibition entitled  « Mes amis de Saint-Tropez » at the institution.
Over the years, every visit Milomir Kovačević Strašni made to his hometown of Sarajevo was inevitably accompanied by a visit to our institution. He interacted with our residents and documented crucial moments in their lives. Photographs taken when our four residents took part in the 3rd Art & Mental Disability Biennial in Saint-Tropez in 2016, along with other photographs created before and after, served as the impetus for organising an exhibition at the Sarajevo art gallery. While everything was ready for the ‘More About Us, With Us’ exhibition in March 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic unfortunately forced us to cancel it. The photographs intended for this exhibition have found their place in the Drin exhibition space, where they can still reach the public and convey their story.

You can now see the results of this longstanding friendship and artistic collaboration in the new exhibition  ‘See – The frame is not a limit’. Many of our residents have become part of this inspiring story.

A little anecdote about Goran

Goran was one of three residents of the Drin Institution selected to travel to Saint-Tropez, France, for the Biennial of Art and Mental Disability. He had an extraordinary talent for drawing and painting, and was also interested in photography. As soon as he heard that he would be flying to Saint-Tropez, his joy was boundless. He talks about his friend in France and the possibility of meeting him. He kept his friend’s name a secret, mentioning only that he lived in Paris and didn’t have his contact details. We tried to explain to him that France was a huge country and that the chances of finding his friend were pretty slim. He asked many questions about Saint-Tropez, such as the geographical coordinates, the climate and other similar details. He also asked for a window seat, as this was his very first flight. Naturally, we accommodated his request and booked him a window seat. He was curious about the technical aspects of the flight, such as the flight altitude and the characteristics of the aircraft. From time to time, he mentioned his friend in France. When we arrived in Saint-Tropez and met the event hosts and participants from different countries, something incredible happened: « There’s my friend! » exclaims Goran. At first we didn’t believe him. But this man came up to him, visibly surprised, and said: « Goran! « Goran! A huge hug followed, and happiness radiated from both their faces. We were shocked. Incredulous, we were witnessing the reunion of two friends about whom we had constantly told Goran that such a thing was impossible. Today, we are speechless. The friend Goran had been talking about all along was Milomir Kovačević Strašni.
Life sometimes tells the most incredible stories. The bonds we forge with others surprise us when we least expect it. We later discovered their special and incredible connection dating back to the days of the University Photography Club (CEDUS). This is the incredible story of Goran and Milomir, which reminds us that our destinies are linked in ways that escape our imagination.
