The essay shows aspects from the life of the last bicycle repairman at Budapest’s famous flee market, The Ecseri. In addition to depicting decline of a personal career and walk of life, the photographs are also intended to characterize the passing of an era when work was still done by hand and virtuality had not yet suppressed emotional involvement in one’s work. In 2006. the work was awarded a III. prize (portraiture, series) at Hungary’s prestigious PressPhoto (Pictures of the Year) Award. The image attached was selected for exhibition at the Center of Photographic Art in Carmel, CA USA.
