Thousands of Colombians are displaced annually because of the guerilla war going on for over 40 years. These families have lost their land, in many cases the fathers have been killed, leaving mothers and children, and have been forced to go to the city looking for help. In 2002, these Colombians took over the international Red Cross building in Bogota and established the building as thier living quarters.
