10 YEARS AFTER, KABUL

After a decade of international presence in Afghanistan, it seems we’ve seen all of Kabul. I feel that the way the media represents a country at war is unfettered, shameless and almost pornographic. I have been working as a freelance photographer for the last 4 years in Afghanistan for several media outlets, but I decided to look for once at the Afghan capital in a different way. This exhibition shows Kabul, 10 years on, through my own eyes. I’ve sometimes loved, sometimes abhorred this chaotic city. My idea was to look for people inside the town, and to capture them with respect and decency, which often meant allowing the subject some distance. I was looking for the imperceptible details that would come out of these scenes. This work is dedicated to a city that has become very close to me but will never really be my own. I will always be a stranger, but I will always get the respect earned as a “guest” in Kabul.
