Antanas Sukus est considéré comme l’un des maîtres de la photographie mondiale et est souvent surnommé le "Homère de la photographie lituanienne” tant l’oeuvre de sa vie forme un assemblement continu et épique de fragments de la vie de tous les jours. Sutkus a constitué une archive immense, guidant son arsenal d’une manière créative, ouvrant perpétuellement de nouveaux thèmes et les creusant toujours plus en profondeur. Ses oeuvres transcendent les limites de la culture locale. Pour lui, la photographie a toujours été un moyen de lire la réalité, et non de la recréer. La substance de son travail pourrait être définie par un seul mot: être. La notion correspond aussi bien à la vérité révélée par le photographe qu’à l’esthétique existentialiste qui se manifeste dans son oeuvre.

Antanas Sukus is considered one of the world’s greatest photographers and is often nicknamed the "Homer of Lithuanian photography" as his life’s work forms an epic collection of fragments of everyday life.
