Lionel JUSSERET

Kinderszenen is a book of photographs iniviting you to a dreamlike and poetic journey around the question of autism and childhood. Punctuated by the texts of poetess Babouillec and writer-philosopher Josef Schovanec, this storybook invites the viewer to enter the mysterious world of these particular children.

”The poetry of Lionel Jusseret’s photographs is not only about his play of shadows and lights, about his colors which, at first sight, arouse an attraction as sudden as inexplicable, an interrogation which sows disorder. Finally, these are all these aspects that create the genius of Kinderszenen, a long series of images offering an unprecedented anthropological view of autism in childhood. When many other people would have focused on the difficulties experienced by families, Jusseret participates in creating a new narrative of autism – the one based on his humanity. The children he photographs are not his subjects. On the contrary, they become an integral part of Jusseret’s creative process looking for semi-improvised reactions, more human and natural moments.” – Olivier Laurent
