For seven years now, Ferhat Bouda has been documenting, in black and white photographs, the daily lives of the Amazighs and is committed in the battle against the assimilation and oblivion this people is subjected to. As a people which does not subscribe to any nation state logic, the Amazighs (which signigfies “free man”) occupy a large territory which spreads form the atlantique coast of Marocco to the Oasis of Siwa in Egypt. Singular and plural, the Amazigh culture is one the most ancient but also one of the least known, and one of the most threatened society in North Africa. Opressed, scattered, and oftentimes persecuted, Amazighs are deeply attached to their traditions and claim their identity. They are nomad or sedentary, muslims, christians or jewish, and represent a minority resisting tyranny.
