LA GOUTTE D'OR

”For me, going back to La Goutte d’Or every time I came back to Paris was the joy of meeting up with friends. The joy of seeing children grow up, who often introduced me to their new friends and we all had fun together! I was discovering and learning how to make a fire at the bottom of the big wall. The kids knew a lot of things they were happy to teach me. Then, there was Patrick, loved by all the children. He worked for the city of Paris. I remember him holding his little girl he cherished in his arms. Years later, he was holding the photograph of that moment alongside his daughter, a beautiful young woman turned lawyer. Years had passed.” – Martine Barrat

From 1982 to 2018, Martine Barrat returned to La Goutte d’Or to see her friends grow up. What she remembers above all is the life that was in all these children. The collaboration with Nike in 2004 is a strong point showing his enthusiasm to interact with young people.

With this same conviction, the 2019 exhibition of La Goutte d’Or is dedicated to Tupac Shakur and Nipsey Hussle, two black American artists whose progressive social impact on their community cannot be denied, especially for young people. During these two months of exhibition, Barrat’s work will be projected on the facade of the FGO-Barbara library every night, as well as her two films ”Getting Lite” and ”Subway” which will be projected several times during the exhibition.
