Michal Chelbin spent several years travelling across Ukraine and documenting life at the country’s military schools. Her portraits of boys in paramilitary uniforms and girls dressed like maids or brides blur the definition of childhood. Some of them are called to become warriors while others are preparing to play a role of dedicated wives. Beyond the innocence of looks, these children destined to train a new elite generation of leaders are confronted, from a very early age, with the roles and conventions of adult society.
