Vanessa Gilles’s work tackles discrimination and alienation. She sought out Romani women, who confided in her about their silence. From Arles to Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, Vanessa listened to these women attentively. Esméralda Romanez gave the photographer an audio tape in which her aunt Marie, who passed away at 87 years old, attests of her internment during the Second World War. Through her photographic work, she produces a 26 minute film which backs the exhibition. She offers a thorough work, a humanistic message. Dosta "Paroles et mémoires de Femmes tsiganes" is a protest against silence.
